Ultem PEI Plastic

Polyetherimide

PEI, or Polyetherimide, is a high-performance amorphous engineering thermoplastic, widely recognized by the brand name Ultem. It is distinguished by its amber-like transparency and exceptional inherent properties. The molecular structure of PEI provides outstanding high tensile strength and rigidity, even at elevated temperatures. It features inherent flame retardancy with very low smoke emission and is highly resistant to a broad spectrum of chemicals and heat. This combination of strength and processability makes PEI a preferred choice for replacing metals in high-stress environments.

We provide high-quality PEI in both plate (sheet) and rod formats, available in three distinct grades to meet various engineering challenges:

  • PEI Natural: This is the standard, unreinforced grade. It offers the high ductility and impact strength, combined with excellent electrical insulation and transparency. It is widely used in the medical industry for sterilization trays. Also this plastic always used in the electronic industry due to its low dielectric constant.
  • PEI GF30 (30% Glass Fiber Reinforced):This grade incorporates 30% glass fibers to significantly enhance stiffness, creep resistance, and dimensional stability compared to the natural grade. It is ideal for structural components in the aerospace and automotive industries, such as brackets, pump parts, and housings that must withstand continuous mechanical load.
  • PEI ESD (Electrostatic Dissipative):Modified with specific additives to provide permanent electrostatic dissipative properties, this grade prevents the buildup of static charges. It is essential for the semiconductor and electronics industries, specifically for manufacturing wafer carriers, test sockets, and cleanroom equipment where sensitive components must be protected from electrostatic discharge.
