PPS Machining Overview
PPS is a high temperature plastic. It shows good chemical resistance, high mechanical strength, good machinability, and great dimensional stability. Besides PPS Virgin, another very common PPS plastic is PPS GF40(PPS 40% glass fiber reinforced). PPS GF40 has very high percentage glass fiber, thus makes the material stiff and easy to crack. So for machining PSS GF40, the material should be pre-heated before any process.
PPS Machining Guide
PPS Sawing
Material | Rotate Speed [rpm] | Circular Pitch |
PPS Virgin | 3000 | 20~24 |
PPS GF40 | 2400~2800 | 20~24 |
PPS Drilling
Material | Number of Teeth | Helix Angle | Approach Angle | Cutting Speed [rpm] | Feed Force [mm/r] |
PPS Virgin | Z2 | 25 | 90 | 50~200 | 0.1~0.3 |
PPS GF40 | Z2 | 25 | 100 | 80~100 | 0.1~0.3 |
Note: Only for Keward Plastics. Fro PPS GF40, when the diameter is larger than 60mm, the material should be pre-heated.
PPS Milling
Material | Number of Teeth | Cutting Speed [rpm] | Feed Force [mm/r] |
PPS Virgin | Z2~Z4 | 250~500 | 0.1~0.45 |
PPS GF40 | Z2~Z4 | 80~150 | 0.05~0.4 |
PPS Turning
Material | Relief Angle | Approach Angle | Corner | Cutting Speed [rpm] | Feed Force [mm/r] |
PPS Virgin | 6 | 0~5 | 45~60 | 250~500 | 0.1~0.5 |
PPS GF40 | 6~8 | 2~8 | 45~60 | 80~150 | 0.1~0.5 |
Note: Only for Keward Plastics.
PPS Heat Treatment
Material | Heating | Keeping | Cooling |
PPS | 3h heating to 120℃, then 4h heating to 220℃ | 1.5h/10mm thickness | cooling to 40℃ at speed of 20℃/h |
Note: Only for Keward Plastics. The heat treatment above is a rough numbers, and only suit for the components which the thickness is less than 50mm. If the thickness is larger than 50mm, Please Send Us Email.
